Planning fire prevention activities such as public awareness campaigns or inspections of commercial buildings to ensure they meet fire safety standards, Conducting training drills to prepare for emergency situations such as earthquakes or chemical spills, Inspecting equipment to ensure it is in good working condition and safe for use by firefighters, Organizing teams of firefighters to respond to emergencies such as fires, natural disasters, automobile accidents, chemical spills, and other crises, Supervising the work of firefighters to ensure that they follow correct procedures during emergencies, Directing firefighting activities at the scene of an emergency using knowledge of firefighting techniques and equipment, Inspecting buildings to identify potential fire hazards such as overloaded electrical circuits and unsafe wiring, Coordinating with other departments to ensure that fire-related needs are met, such as working with insurance companies to settle claims, Maintaining records of fire department operations, including statistics on calls received and equipment maintenance records, Serve as a leader in the firehouse, providing guidance and support to firefighters, Respond to emergency calls and provide medical attention and fire suppression as needed, Perform regular maintenance on equipment and vehicles, and conduct safety inspections, Train new firefighters in department procedures and protocols, Develop and implement fire prevention plans for homes and businesses in the community, Investigate the cause of fires, working with law enforcement as needed, Serve as a liaison between the fire department and other agencies, such as the police department and ambulance service, Keep accurate records of all incidents and activities, Plan and direct firefighting operations at the scene of a fire, Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies, Supervise the work of firefighters under your command, Participate in continuing education and training opportunities, Completion of Firefighter I & II certification, Associates degree in fire science or related field, Bachelors degree in fire science or related field.
